Patient reminders are a great way to get patients to come in for a visit.

The other day I received a text message from my optometrist’s office saying I was due for an annual eye exam. Two days later, I received an email with the same reminder. Two days later, another text.

These reminders were very effective in getting me to schedule an appointment for two reasons.

First, I had completely forgotten when my last eye exam was, so I wasn't thinking about scheduling an appointment. Second, the multiple reminders sent both via text and email were exactly what I needed to get me to follow-thru. If it had just been one text or one email, I would have forgotten.

Your patients have busy lives and hectic schedules, so thinking about what kind of medical/dental appointments they're due for is not at the top of their priority list. Reminding them of preventative screenings and annual exams is a great way to get them to schedule a visit; and, if you can put a link for them to schedule the visit online is even better.

Pro tip: reminder letters are not nearly as effective as texts or emails. People often don't read their mail, so they aren't seeing the reminder
